It's that time!

We have tapped a few of the maples in our yard and are getting sap.  It's so much fun to crunch through the snow with our little buckets and collect it.  I love this time of year when you can smell the fresh earth but yet it's still mostly covered in snow.  My husband Jeff, took a metal barrel and added feet for balance, a stove pipe and a door.  This way we will be able to regulate the heat better and boil a few pans of sap at a time.  Since moving to this property 3 years ago, we have always enjoyed Maple Syrup Time!  Can't wait to get some on our pancakes!

Spring Into the Season.....

We are excited to be published in our first magazine!  We got our issue of "Prims" magazine in the mail a few days ago and it is such a beautiful magazine!  My twin sister, Kirsten and I created this fun piece from polymer clay and wood.  It was fun to come up with our idea together, laying on a bed and sketching.  We don't get to do this very often and we had a great time drawing and erasing and coming up with this bunny crow rider together.  We are also going to be in another great magazine in the fall from Better Homes and Gardens!  We can't wait to show you!

All things Irish....

Since my hubby is leaving for Ireland with "the boys", I've been thinking about all things Irish.  Irish food, Irish songs....everything.  I've been looking and finding all sorts of fabulous inspirational pieces like this one by Catherine Holman.
Fabulous folk art from this talented artist can be found here . She combines sweets with holidays in the most whimical ways!
Isn't this just the custest little twig legged lamb?  All decked out in his Saint Patty's Day finest? You can find more creative pieces here.

and because I love folk art.....I am always drawn to these types of items.  Simple yet fun....whimsical and unique.
an irish fairy from here:   I've always had an attraction to fairies and have now passed that on down to my 4 yr. old daughter, Maya.  Each bedroom she's had has had a fairy painted on the wall and pictures hanging here and there.
a fun piece of folk art from here:
I'd like to go to Ireland someday too!

Thinking SPRING.....

Even though there is about 15 inches of snow covering our yard and no signs of spring yet...I can't help but dream about green buds, dripping maple sap and chirping birds.  A family tradition for us is to tap a few of the maple trees on our 3 acre property and harvest the sap.  The kids help out by hanging the buckets and helping Daddy get twigs for the fire.  It's a bit of a process but there is nothing like home made maple syrup!  The trees should start dripping later this month with good sunny weather!

Here are a few things that remind me of spring in Maine:

maple syrup....yummy
collection cans.....

great Maple lip balm from an awesome Maine shop.  You can visit her site here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/longwinterfarm?ref=seller_info
