Snowmen Spindles....

Christmas has come and gone and so has the snow.
Today it has been raining hard and washing away all of the white stuff.....
We did get a chance to get out and play in it and it was fabulous before it left.
Each of our three children got new sleds and we had a great time
playing and sliding with cousins, aunts, uncles and parents.
I can say we had the best weather to hike back to the cabin in the
"forest" to have a cozy little cookout while the snow fell around us.
They day really could not have been more perfect unless Kirsten could have
shared it with us. We tried to roll a giant snowball but it was
not the snowball making, type of snow.
I had a great time making these spooly snowmen too.
I got the spindles here and I think I  bought all she had left!
I'm going to have to make more because they were so much fun!
Enjoy!

What a great year for us!

2011 is coming to an end and it has been a great one for us.  Two creative twin sisters, from small town Maine, have started on our journey to realize our dreams.  What started as a crafting weekend three years ago has turned into a full fledged business today.  In 2011 we have been lucky enough to have been published for the first time!  We started off in a beautiful magazine in the spring called "Prims" and have been in six others since! WOW...we never would've expected that!  We just found out we have been published in our seventh magazine called "Celebrate 365".
Cover of the Winter Issue that indigotwin has been featured in.
You can read about his fun publication and order your copy!

A few of our pieces have made it in and they are now available for purchase in our Etsy shop.
Our Frosty's on paper mache boxes are a fun wintery treat and we also have
our trio of Eskimo girls at the bottom of the page.
Find them here today!

Enjoy!

Mermaid mommy....

A new mermaid wall sculpture, "Ondine" has been
painted in shades of green.
She has a textured body and pretty, long, curly hair.
A wire is attached to her back so it can be hung on the wall.
I just love mermaids!
Off to make a few more!

The makings of a Family Sculpture.....

We love to make custom folk art family sculptures.   These make great, unique gifts for someone who would love something original.  I thought I'd share a little about how this process works.  We start with a photo or set of photos.

We request that people send us info that we can't always tell by the photos such as height, eye color and accessories.  We let people choose outfits and add something to hold such as a football, golf club or doll.  We then go ahead and work on a sketch of that family with their particular choices.
Once they approve the rough drawing we move on to sculpting the finished piece.  We use a combination of our drawing and our fun, folk art style to make the final piece.  Our figures have a similar body style, large noses and big eyes to add to the whimsy.  Our objective is to make these have the "essence" of the family members but not to be identical to the actual person.
If you'd like a family sculpture of your own, they usually take between 2-5 weeks to make before they are ready to ship.  Please visit our Etsy shop to see other samples or request one of your own!

We would love to create a special piece for you!

Fun Project!

A fun customer is working on a project
and she wanted us to be a part of it!   She is
repurposing this table and chair into a neat art piece.
This is a photo of the project
BEFORE:

and this is a photo of the table AFTER:
she has been working with an Ohio artist from Rush Tree Mosaics.
She wanted to have us be a part of the chair and asked us to make
a few mermaids to add to the chair back.  This is just
going to be an art piece and no one will be sitting in it.
We can't wait to see the finished product!

Wedding Bliss......

SARAH & CHAD

I was happy to be involved with a wedding for Sarah and Chad.
Sarah is a lovely girl and we started off skating together when
we were young, then I was her babysitter, and THEN I was her
skating coach.  She asked me to make some jars for her wedding
that had a chalkboard surface and then I stenciled on top of the
black chalk paint.  Each stencil had the couples names and their
wedding date.  We tied on a piece of chalk and a little written note
asking people to take them home as a wedding favor.

Her colors were a lovely blue and raspberry.  She decorated with
beautiful blue hydrangia's and had vases at each table.
I also painted 8 metal trash cans that were scattered around on her
parent's amazing property where the wedding was held outside.

The cans all lined up before we brought them to the wedding venue.
I painted these in several different stages and luckily I always had great weather to paint
them outside.
a close up of one of the cans. My favorite part of painting is
highlighting and making shadows during the final stage.  I also love to
add the fine details such as the petals and see it all come together.
My 3 yr. old son Jack who was enjoying his raspberry champagne
gelato on the sunny wedding day.

I hope the two of you have an amazing Happily Ever After.

Live art auction...

I painted this acrylic painting for the Paint Presque Isle event in my hometown over the weekend.
It is of my parents potato barn which is very typical of where I'm from.
The auction helps to fund art programs in the community and the art auction raised over 10,ooo dollars.
I don't get a chance to paint often anymore but it sure is fun, especially when I get to spend the day with my family.  My brother and sister came up for the event that was tied to a hot air balloon festival. We got our folks a ride in a ballon for their birthdays this year and they loved it!  I think my husband and I may go up next year because it looked like so much fun!

Favorite Finds Thursday....

I've been browsing around and I found this artist that I just had to share.
I'm drawn to this creepy kind of style and I especially love the drawings
of the attached figures or the twins.

Being a twin, I've always loved these kind of pieces.
Especially since  these drawings have dark hair like us.
Take a look at more of her pieces here:
It's worth the trip!
